Pipelines are the established means of secure and economical transport of crude oil, natural gas, and other petroleum products around the world. Traversing through various environmentally sensitive regions & densely populated areas, which poses a challenge from a safety, environmental and integrity perspective. As pipelines are usually vulnerable to threats like Corrosion, 3rd party intervention (TPI), soil movement, etc. leading to a potential loss of containment event. Resulting in irreparable damage to the environment and the company’s reputation.
Third-Party Intervention (TPI) being one of the major causes of pipeline failure and the most expensive requires regular monitoring of Pipeline Right of Way (ROW) to observe for - Surface conditions, Construction activities, Encroachments, Washouts, etc along the pipeline ROW.
We at H-Square Engineers are developing an almost real-time data-driven, scalable, reliable, easy-to-use and sustainable solution to prevent/reduce pipeline third-party intervention by raising awareness about pipelines and providing pipeline operators with actionable insights into their pipeline assets.

Satellite-Based Pipeline Monitoring
To prevent Third Party Interventions (TPI) along the pipeline ROW requires regular monitoring of the Pipeline ROW to observe for - Surface conditions, Construction activities, Encroachments, Washouts, etc along the pipeline ROW, usually done by line walking, who traverse along the pipeline ROW passing through difficult terrains in harsh weather conditions, unsafe night patrolling and exposed to risks of snakebites, slips & falls. But lack technical expertise limiting their ability to convey back crucial information on time about the pipeline ROW creating data gaps due to terrain restrictions, opposition by Landowners to pass through their properties or natural disasters (floods, landslides, earthquakes, etc.).
Periodic monitoring of Pipeline ROW, Using Weather & Daylight independent radar satellite data (SAR) & optical satellite data to Monitor activities along the Pipeline ROW, notifying pipeline operators about any activities/changes along the pipeline ROW via an easy-to-use web application. Offers a safer and sustainable solution to monitor TPI.
